LINA JANE PRAIRIE, KELP ARTIST
Lina's work is very unique but her process is as old as human civilization. She uses kelp and other materials found on California beaches to create beautiful baskets and sculptures. Her baskets range in size and complexity with the kelp's different hues of browns and yellows creating natural color designs. Using her weaving skills, Lina's sculptures tie together beach collected materials including driftwood, bamboo roots, rope, and all kinds of kelp to create pieces that are beautiful and abstract. During my visit, Lina was working on a commission for a landscape architectural office in Sonoma. The two pieces are window installations made of steel frames and openly weaved Bull Kelp, check them out below.
